沈俊太研究员来访并作学术报告

Prof. Juntai Shen visited SWIFAR

4月3号下午，上海天文台沈俊太研究员应邀访问中国西南天文研究所，并为研究所及物理与天文学院师生作学术报告。

沈俊太研究员主要研究星系结构及动力学以及星系形成与演化。他在报告中介绍了利用高分辨率流体动力学模拟方法研究棒旋星系中心核环形成机制以及棒对中心大质量黑洞形成的影响。报告结束后，师生们积极提问，就星系中心棒的形成机制、磁场以及黑洞等问题，与沈俊太研究员进行了互动交流。

沈俊太研究员简介：

沈俊太研究员于2005年在美国罗格斯大学获得天体物理博士学位。2005年起作为独立博士后在德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校进行研究工作。2009年回国工作并入选中科院“百人计划”。现为中科院上海天文台研究员，博士生导师。研究方向为星系结构及动力学，包括银河系、旋涡星系、椭圆星系、超大质量黑洞、暗物质的结构演化及相互作用。其建立的银河系核球动力学模型已经成为银河系核球领域的经典工作。

Prof. Juntai Shen from Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO) visited SWIFAR on April 3, 2018. He gave a colloquium presentation on gas flow patterns in barred galaxies revealed by high-resolution hydrodynamical simulations, with a special attention to how the characteristics of nuclear rings depend on galactic properties. This provides a theoretical foundation to determine, e.g., the bar pattern speed and the bulge central density,  using the observed nuclear rings. A potential mechanism for the growth of massive black holes was also discussed. After the talk, he had an extensive and stimulating discussion with the faculty and students at SWIFAR on the formation of galactic bars, magnetic field in galaxies and black holes.

 

Brief introduction to Juntai Shen

Juntai Shen is now a research professor in Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO). He received his Ph.D. in astronomy in 2005 from Rutgers University. From 2005 to 2009, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at University of Texas at Austin. He joined SHAO in 2009 under the CAS 100 telent program. His research focuses on the formation and evolution of galaxies, particularly on understanding galactic structures through dynamical studies.
