多通道测光巡天望远镜项目专家论证会召开

Mephisto Peer Review Meeting held at Yunnan University

2018年1月6日上午，多通道测光巡天望远镜项目专家论证会在云南大学呈贡校区图书馆三楼会议室召开。来自全国主要天文台及高校、国家自然科学基金委员会的20位专家参加了论证会，美国国家光学天文台研究员梁明视频参加了论证会。副校长张力、学校相关职能部门主要负责人、项目组成员等参加了会议。

会上，中国西南天文研究所陈丙秋博士和中国科学院南京天文光学技术研究所李正阳博士代表项目组就多通道测光巡天望远镜（Multi-channel Photometric Survey Telescope，Mephisto）的科学目标、技术方案、创新性及可行性等方面向与会专家作了汇报。

在上海交通大学教授、中国科学院院士景益鹏的主持下，专家们围绕报告和项目进行了质询和充分讨论，并形成论证意见。专家一致认为，作为国际上首台大视场、多通道、高精度测光巡天望远镜，该项目的独特优势在于能同时在三个波段拍摄同一天区的高质量图像，精确记录天体多波段星等和实时颜色信息，测量各类天体的物理化学性质，录制天体运动、变化的“彩色纪录片”，实现对快速移动天体、变源和暂现源的系统搜寻、快速分类与后续证认。项目预期在宇宙暂现源的探测与研究等时域天文学领域取得突破性成果。

该项目的实施对加快云南大学天文学及相关学科发展、培养一流人才、早日跻身世界一流天文学科行列具有重大的现实意义和巨大的推动作用。因此，专家们建议学校尽快启动多通道测光巡天望远镜建设，并对项目的顺利实施提出了很多好的建议。

       

         

On January 6, 2018, the peer review meeting about the project of Multi-channel Photometric Survey Telescope (Mephisto) was held at Yunnan University. Twenty experts from major institutions of China participated the meeting. Dr. Ming Liang, researcher of National Optical Astronomy Observatory, USA, participated the meeting by video. Dr. Li Zhang, the vice president, and directors from relevant management departments of Yunnan University, and members of the project team also joined the meeting.

Representing the project team, Dr. Bingqiu Chen from the South-Western Institute for Astronomy Research (SWIFAR) at Yunnan University, and Dr. Zhengyang Li from Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology (NIAOT), National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences, reported to the review committee the scientific motivations, technical designs and feasibility studies of the Mephisto project.

The presentations were followed by inquiries from the committee members about more details of the project, which was chaired by Academician and Professor Yipeng Jing from Shanghai Jiaotong University. They also provided important suggestions that will help further improve the preparations of the project. A review report was submitted to the officials of Yunnan University. In the report, the experts fully recognized the importance of the Mephisto project. They expect that the unique high quality data from Mephisto will enable a wide range of exciting studies, particularly the time domain science. It will also further enhance the scientific impact of Yunnan University. They therefore provided a strong support to the project, and encouraged that the university should start the project as soon as possible.
