Gravitational Lensing Workshop held in Kunming

Organized by the South-Western Institute for Astronomy Research (SWIFAR), Yunnan University, the Gravitational Lensing Workshop is held on December 5, 2017, at Kunming Xinghua Hotel. This is the sixth of the workshop series on gravitational lensing.  Colleagues and students from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai Normal University, Yunnan University, Yunnan Observatories, National Astronomical Observatories, Purple Mountain Observatory, and Shanghai Astronomical Observatory join the workshop.

Gravitational lensing effects have been recognized as one of the most important cosmological probes. They are the science drivers of a number of large surveys worldwide, including the Chinese Space Station Optical Survey project (CSS-OS). On the other hand, challenges remain to fully realize their potential. These include accurate measurements of lensing signals, exploring multi-statistical analyses, investigating systematic effects, and fully understanding the physical information embedded in gravitational lensing effects.

The workshop series aim to engage active researchers in the field in China to discuss various frontier problems, to exchange ideas and progresses, and to foster fruitful collaborations. The workshop lasts for three days. We have presentations from different groups on December 5 and 6. On December 7, we have a special discussion session focusing on the CSS-OS.

This workshop is the first scientific meeting organized by SWIFAR after it was established in September 2017. It is an important event that can enhance the collaborations of SWIFAR with colleagues nationwide, and help to develop us to become one of the key centers in cosmological studies in China.
