Lunch talk on Aug. 27, 2026

Extracting Cosmological Tomographic Information from Spectroscopic Surveys and Its Applications

Speaker: Zhuoheng Li (NAOC)

Venue: SWIFAR Building 2111

Time: 12:45 PM, Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026

Abstract:

Modern spectroscopic surveys provide three-dimensional maps of the Universe over a wide range of redshifts, offering rich information about the evolution of large-scale structure. However, conventional clustering analyses performed at a single effective redshift can lose part of this redshift-dependent information. In this talk, I will introduce redshift weighting as an efficient approach to extracting tomographic information without dividing the survey into many redshift bins. We apply this method to the eBOSS DR16 quasar sample and model the weighted power spectra using the Effective Field Theory of Large-Scale Structure (EFT of LSS). Mock tests show that redshift weighting can improve constraints on redshift-dependent cosmological parameters, especially those related to dark energy evolution. I will also discuss its potential applications to future large-scale spectroscopic surveys.
