Abstract:
Low Surface Brightness Galaxies (LSBGs) are fundamentally distinct from normal galaxies in physical properties, star formation and evolution. However, due to their faint nature and the limitation of the observational capacity, LSBGs are seriously deficient in samples for long, which has caused insufficent understanding of the special LSB populations, leading a further bias in the entire galaxy formation paradigm. In this talk, I will at first share our exploration of the star formation of LSBGs based on the samples we established, giving our answers to the star formation puzzle of LSBGs. Secondly, I will introduce our recent work on detection, extreme properties, and possible origins of the almost optically dark galaxies.
