Abstract:
Extreme mass-ratio inspirals (EMRIs) are one of main target sources of space-borne gravitational wave detectors, such as Tianqin, Taiji, and LISA. They are very sensitive to environmental forces, which allow them to be one of the best probes to galactic-center accretion disks, close stellar-mass objects, and Dark Matter distribution. I will discuss breakthroughs in understanding their formation mechanisms and in characterizing environmental effects in recent years, with a connection to multi-messenger signals such as Quasi Periodic Eruptions.
