21 cm signal recovery in SKA Data Challenge 3
Speaker: Le Zhang (SYSU)
Venue: SWIFAR Building 2111
Time: 16:00 PM, Thursday, Jul. 25, 2025
Abstract:
In this talk, I will review recent results from the SKA Data Challenge 3 (SDC3), organized by the SKA Observatory to prepare for forthcoming SKA observations of the Epoch of Reionisation (EoR). The primary goal of SDC3 is to evaluate existing analysis techniques and to develop new methodologies for processing and interpreting SKA-scale data. SDC3 focused on foreground removal (SDC3a), addressing the separation of Galactic and extragalactic emissions from the cosmological 21 cm signal. SDC3a was conducted over a nine-month period, from March to November 2023. In this presentation, I will discuss common strategies for 21 cm foreground mitigation and describe in detail the foreground removal approach adopted in our SDC3a analysis.
