Geomagnetic signal of ultralight dark matter
Speaker: Ariel Alejandro (NJU)
Venue: SWIFAR Building 2111
Time: 12:45 PM, Monday, Oct. 13, 2025
Abstract:
The Earth can be used as a giant transducer for ultralight dark matter. The presence of ultralight dark matter fields in the Earth atmosphere can induce monochromatic magnetic field signals over the whole Earth’s surface. In this seminar I will describe the properties of this signal for three different ultralight models; axions, dark photons, and millicharged particles, then I will show current bounds from Earth’s magnetic activity data. Finally, I will mention the emergent collaborations, such as SNIPE Hunt and GPEX, that aim to explore this idea by doing dedicated measurements.
