Abstract:
The interplay between star formation, feedback, and gas accretion in galaxy evolution remains uncertain in both observations and theories. In this talk, I will discuss how the circumgalactic medium (CGM)—a multiphase gas reservoir in the galactic ecosystem—serves as a potential diagnostic to resolve these processes. Observations from the Cosmic Ultraviolet Baryon Survey (CUBS in UV) and FAST Extended Atlas of Selected Targets Survey (FEASTS in radio) collaborations reveal the complexity in the CGM. In particular, I will introduce the general picture of the multiphase CGM, and focus on the recent progress in resolving the spatial distribution and dynamics of the diffuse gas. Future synthesizing multiwavelength data offers new insights into the CGM’s role in regulating galaxy growth.
