Energetic hot wind from Low-Luminosity AGNs

Speaker: Fangzheng Shi (Nanjing University)

Venue: Video Conference

Time: 12:30 PM, Monday, Oct. 18, 2021

Abstract:

When the accretion rate of central SMBHs in the galaxies falls below certain threshold, the inner thin accretion disk will be truncated and replaced by radiative inefficient hot accretion flows. In the past decades, theories and simulations have predicted the existence of bipolar outflow driven by hot accretion flows, namely hot wind. The hot wind can blow the matter from the central black hole and has been considered as an important candidate of AGN feedback. We have for the first time found the observational evidence of a 11-keV hot wind with speed of ~0.01c in the closest archetype LLAGN M81* using high-resolution Chandra HETG X-ray spectra. We modeled the spectra of hot wind with MHD simulation and found it consistent with the observed spectra. The kinetic energy and momentum derived from the model strongly supports the idea that the hot wind can serve as an important means of AGN feedback.
