Unveiling Cosmic Structure Formation by Cluster Weak Lensing

Speaker: Keiichi Umetsu (ASIAA)

Venue: Video Conference

Time: 15:00 PM, Thursday, Sep. 3, 2020

Abstract:

Weak gravitational lensing of background galaxies provides a direct probe of the projected matter distribution in and around galaxy clusters, the largest class of self-gravitating systems formed in the universe. In this talk, I will discuss how cluster weak lensing can be used to test models of cosmic structure formation in combination with multiwavelength observations and numerical simulations.  The topics of my talk will include (1) observational constraints on the cluster mass distribution, (2) recent observational attempts to detect and characterize the steepening splashbak feature in cluster outskirts, (3) tests of CDM predictions using cluster halo shapes, and (4) the moving lens effect to probe the peculiar velocity field of cluster dark halos.
