Structural variations in M87 at multiple scales
Speaker: Yuzu Cui (CCNU)
Venue: SWIFAR Building 2111
Time: 12:45 PM, Monday, Sep. 15, 2025
Abstract:
M87, the closest radio galaxy hosting a supermassive black hole of six billion solar masses, provides an unparalleled laboratory for studying black hole accretion and jet formation. Multi-scale observations over the past decades have revealed striking structural variations. By connecting these spatial scales, we gain new insights into the coupling between the black hole spin, the accretion disk, and the relativistic jet. This talk will summarize recent progress in multi-scale monitoring of M87, highlight observational evidence for dynamic jet–disk–black hole interactions, and discuss how these results inform our broader understanding of black hole physics and jet formation mechanisms.
