Lunch talk on Mar. 17, 2025

Multi-Band, Multi-Component, and Multi-Modal Spectral Energy Distributions Synthesis and Analysis of Galaxies and Active Galactic Nuclei: Applications and Insights

Speaker: Yunkun Han (YNAO)

Venue: SWIFAR Building 2111

Time: 12:45 PM, Monday, Mar. 17, 2025

Abstract:

Understanding galaxy formation and evolution requires sophisticated analysis of the rich information encoded in galaxies' spectral energy distributions (SEDs). In this talk, I will present BayeSED3, a comprehensive Bayesian framework for analyzing multi-band, multi-component, and multi-modal observations of galaxies and Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs). This state-of-the-art tool incorporates flexible modeling of stellar populations, dust attenuation and emission, gas kinematics, and AGN components (including accretion disk, BLR, NLR, and torus), while handling both photometric and spectroscopic data. I will demonstrate its applications in several key areas, including the analysis of galaxy-AGN co-evolution through the M_BH-M_ relation, and its crucial role in upcoming surveys like CSST where it achieves the required redshift accuracy for BAO and other cosmological studies. The talk will highlight how BayeSED3's integration of machine learning techniques with Bayesian inference provides a powerful and efficient approach to extracting physical insights from increasingly complex astronomical datasets. I will conclude by discussing future applications and the tool's potential impact on our understanding of galaxy evolution, AGN physics, and cosmology.
