Cosmic Magnetism: Challenge to its Origin and Evolution in Our Universe

Speaker: Takuya Akahori (NAOJ)

Venue: Room 2317, SWIFAR Building

Time: 3:00 PM, Monday, 3rd June, 2019

Abstract:

Magnetic field appears to be ubiquitous in our Universe. Astronomy in the last decades has revealed that magnetic field plays a crucial role in the origin and evolution of diverse subjects of astrophysics such as solar flare, star formation, first radio burst, accretion disk, AGN jet, galaxy structure, galaxy-cluster evolution, and so on. Long-wavelength radio polarimetry is one of only a few promising methods to explore magnetic field in galactic and extragalactic objects, and thus "Cosmic Magnetism" is one of the key sciences of the international Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project into which China is participating as a full member. In this talk, I will briefly review cosmic magnetism science with SKA and will introduce "Faraday Tomography” which can be a key technology to revolutionize cosmic magnetism study.
